ORIENTAL - Rani Arbo, the fiddler, lead singer, and founder of Daisy Mayhem, returns to the Old Theater Nov. 6 as one of the final concerts for the 2008 Pamlico Musical Society season.

Arbo and company smartly meld American folk with splashes of jazz, pop, bluegrass and blues. While each musician is an accomplished soloist, the quartet forms a very proficient ensemble.

This talented quartet offers a sparkling, high-energy show.

A cellist by training, Arbo's swampy, self-taught fiddling draws from swing, blues, and old-time music. Anand Nayak is a singer and songwriter with stylistic versatility on guitar.

Andrew Kinsey, on double bass, banjo and vocals, has been Arbo's singing partner for more than 15 years.

Rounding out the quartet is Scott Kessel on drums and vocals. Kessel mixes up American rock and pop beats with African, Afro-Cuban, New Orleans and South American rhythms to create the foundation of Daisy Mayhem's unique sound.

Tickets are $20, and are available at Croakertown, 807 Broad St., Oriental, or at www.pamlicomusic.org.

Doors open at 7 p.m. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.

The final concert of the 2008 season is a Dec. 5 classical music show by the Aurora Guitar Quartet. The group is based in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. area, and features guitarists from Europe, Japan and the U.S.

The 2009 Pamlico Music Society season includes jazz, classical, folk and roots music:

Jan. 24: John Brown Quintet - jazz;

Feb. 20: Carolina Brass - classical;

March 20: Rachael Price - vocals. Concert at Pamlico Community College;

April 17: Boo Hanks and Jeffrey Scott - Piedmont Blues;

May 9: Emanuel Gruber - classical cello, with piano accompanist.

Season tickets are available, which include a choice of five or more concerts at discounted prices. The Old Theater is handicapped accessible and is located at 609 Broad St. in Oriental.
