Lifetime Learning Center has many plans for summer
Comments 0 | Recommend 0For many, the lazy days of summer bring with them some additional free time.
If you're looking for some entertaining and interesting ways to spend your summer, give Craven Community College's Lifetime Learning Center a look. The staff there has once again put together a fantastic slate of summer classes, trips and programs.
"Summer is a great time to learn something new and to have some fun doing it," said Jennifer Baer, the Lifetime Learning Center's marketing director. "Registration is still open for many of these programs and special offerings."
If you're interested in trying your hand at a new craft, the Lifetime Learning Center offers everything from pottery at the wheel and basket weaving to floral arranging and jewelry making.
For those of you who like to get up and get moving, Craven has two evening dance classes. One is Carolina Shag, which begins June 12, and the other is traditional ballroom dancing, which begins July 15.
And don't forget about the Lifetime Learning Center's two-day bus trip to Roanoke Island, which is set for June 13-14.
Participants will travel by motorcoach from New Bern to North Carolina's Outer Banks, where they'll see a performance of "The Lost Colony" outdoor drama and take a behind-the-scenes tour.
The group will visit the Bodie Island Lighthouse, the Wright Brothers Memorial and the shops of downtown Manteo. Participants also will visit the Elizabethan Gardens and Roanoke Island Festival Park, where they'll see the tall ship Elizabeth II.
The registration fee is $229, which includes transportation, two breakfasts, dinner on June 13, overnight accommodations at an oceanfront hotel and all admission fees.
The deadline to register is June 6, and enrollment is limited to the capacity of the motorcoach. The registration fee must be pre-paid.
"Don't let you summer go by without doing something fun and interesting for yourself," Baer said.
For complete details and registration information, call the Lifetime Learning Center at 638-7295 or 633-2618.
