Amanda and Gregory Whitford of New Bern announce the engagement of their daughter, Amber R. Whitford of Greensboro, to Macario Alvarado Jr. of Sandy Ridge.

The bridegroom-elect is the son of Juana and Macario Alvarado of Sandy Ridge.

The bride-elect attended West Craven High School and is employed by the North Carolina Army National Guard.

The bridegroom-elect graduated from North Stokes High School and is employed by the North Carolina Army National Guard.

A wedding is planned for Aug. 15, 2008, at Pentecostal Church of Greensboro.
