Skateboard competition scheduled at Swing Zone
Comments 0 | Recommend 0A family recreation business on U.S. 70 East will host another skateboard competition Saturday night for people of all skill levels.
Swing Zone Family Fun Park will hold the Grip It and Rip It Skate Jam competition at 7 p.m. Participants must wear full pads and a helmet, and people under 18 must have a parent's signature.
People will participate in beginner, intermediate and open divisions, and a "best trick" award will be given at the end of the competition.
The competition is sponsored by Swing Zone and Eastern Edge Surf Shop. People can register by visiting one of the businesses. The cost is $10.
Another registration will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday. People must pay $15 to register Saturday.
The competition will be the first held at night at Swing Zone. More than 60 people skated March 1 to raise money for Josh Prince, a New Bern man who died of an inoperable brain aneurysm. Two bands, Nights of Tragedy and Kill Mercy, will perform while people skate.
Anyone who wants more information about Saturday's event should call Swing Zone at 634-4263 or Eastern Edge at 638-2213.
